What happened in January at the castle ?

The gates of the castle remained closed throughout the month of January. This is intriguing! So what are we doing behind the high walls of Sully-sur-Loire? Are we sleeping? ... Not far from here. I will tell you the little history of the castle when we do not welcome visitors.

Storage and maintenance operation!!!

Once upon a time there was a 600 year old castle. An old house that needs to be pampered. And yes, throughout the month of January, we take great care of this heritage. Maintenance, checking of fire extinguishers, electrical panels, work to bring it up to standard, development... everything is reviewed to ensure a successful reopening.

Here, our faithful allies, the stools, allow us to reach normally inaccessible corners.

Cleaning and waxing

A month during which we can empty our rooms to clean our surfaces. A month during which we clean floors, walls, baseboards, woodwork... Our parquet floors are happy to receive sometimes wax, sometimes oil, in order to get a makeover and to be able to accommodate many shoes to tread on. floors of this castle dating from the Middle Ages.

Our allies wax, oil, cloth and vacuum cleaners are necessary to welcome the public in good conditions. The maintenance of buildings and collections is one of our priorities.

Verification of collections

A month during which our collections manager ensures the general good condition of the furniture. A month during which she checks, dusts, diagnoses and selects the collections which must be restored.

And yes, it's like at home, as dust accumulates, if we leave it, it allows micro-organisms to germinate and attack our furniture. So we pay attention to it.

Final stage of this story, once the building has been completely checked and cleaned, we re-arrange all the furniture in each room of the castle.

Carpet, sofa, 18th century armchair, marble table, inlaid desk, Boulle bookcase, and accessories... everything must be ready for the reopening of the castle.

And yes, because our daily tasks continue despite the closure, we follow training, carry out archiving, spend time in meetings to prepare for the 2024 season, we establish the castle's communication plan to promote our monument , its collections and events; we place orders, we rearrange certain spaces, we put away the Christmas decorations... in short, life in a castle!

 

When the castle is closed, there is no shortage of activities and we stay very busy behind our high walls.

From now on, the castle is open until December 31. Don't hesitate to open our doors to discover our 19 visiting spaces, from the Great Lower Room to the framework, including the King's bedroom, the large living room, the dining room, the Duchess's apartments or still the hall of honor.
