Throwback to our animation "the medieval ones of Sully #1: armament in the Middle Ages"

28 March 2023

Sunday, March 19, the castle of Sully-sur-Loire was besieged. Knights and damsels, straight out of the Middle Ages, have taken over the lower Great Hall of the keep. Armament, warfare techniques, fun activities and a luce workshop were on the agenda at the "Médiévales de Sully #1".

“A captivated audience who enjoyed the animation. In this Great Lower Room, which has kept its medieval character, the company was able to install a weapons display. 3 armors were present, polearms, swords, mace and chain mail. A muscular universe for a playful and instructive presentation,” explains Johnatan Savarit, programming manager for the Château de Sully-sur-Loire.

Indeed, we were recruiting our army this Sunday, March 19. Our apprentice soldiers were able to weigh a sword, try on helmets, see the resistance of certain protections such as chainmail or gauntlets. A medieval parenthesis that delighted more than 200 people on this day. Installed in the form of a stand, the "Hauts Coeurs" company showed and explained the role of each weapon, each army corps, the birth of the standing army under Charles VII, the operation of a siege.

Further on, on a table, games had been laid out. Recognize this or that expression, this or that tax in the Middle Ages, this or that ingredient consumed in the 15th century. The "Hauts Coeurs" company has taken on this mission: to animate our Great Lower Room.

"What is interesting is that our visitors sometimes took longer to discover this universe than to visit the castle as such, as if the latter were the icing on the cake and the event took precedence" adds Johnatan Savarit

And to conclude

This animation was a first at the castle. Which of course foreshadows a sequel. Next meeting: "Les medievales #2" on June 4 at the castle to discover the world of costume, dance and banquet in the Middle Ages. A real dive into the splendor and atmosphere of a castle in the Middle Ages. Come and chat with our acrobats to bring to life, together, the great medieval hours of the castle of Sully-sur-Loire.
